Wedding Invitation Wording Examples
May 7, 2026
The wording of your invitation sets the tone. Use these templates for formal, casual, and everything in between.
Wording depends on who is hosting. If parents host, start with their names. "Mr. and Mrs. John Smith request the pleasure of your company." If the couple hosts, start with your names. "Together with their families, Jane Doe and John Smith invite you to celebrate." For a casual wedding, use simple language. "Please join us for the wedding of Jane Doe and John Smith." For a second marriage, include children's names. Include the date, time, location, and reception information. Spell out everything. "Saturday, the fifth of May" not "5/5." Add dress code in the lower right. "Black Tie," "Cocktail Attire," or "Casual." The most important rule is clarity. Guests need to know where to go and when.
