How to Choose a Wedding Color Palette

May 6, 2026

Your color palette sets the tone for your entire wedding. Learn how to choose colors that reflect your style and the season.

Choosing a color palette is one of the most fun parts of planning. Start with the season: pastels for spring, brights for summer, jewel tones for fall, and deep hues for winter. Consider your venue — a modern loft looks best with bold or neutral colors while a garden works well with soft, romantic hues. Think about your personal style and look for inspiration everywhere. Limit your palette to three to five colors. Choose one dominant color (50 percent), one secondary color (30 percent), and one or two accent colors (10 to 20 percent each). Test your colors in different lighting and do not forget about neutrals — white, ivory, cream, beige, and gray ground your brighter hues.
