Wedding Photography Timeline Tips
May 6, 2026
A well-planned timeline ensures you get all the photos you want. Learn how to schedule your day for the best light and the fewest stress.
Your photography timeline should be a top priority. Ask your photographer how much time they need for each part of the day: details, getting ready, first look, bridal party, family, ceremony, and reception. Plan for golden hour — the hour before sunset provides the most beautiful light. Allocate at least 90 minutes for bride and groom portraits. Add buffer time between events as things always run late. Schedule family photos immediately after the ceremony when guests are still present. Make a list of must-have family groupings in advance and give it to your photographer. Schedule 30 minutes for detail shots of your dress, rings, shoes, and invitations. Designate a family member to help wrangle guests for photos.
